Hello there,
My name's Gem, and I'm a vintage enthusiast, ukulele playing, novice baker. I love all things from the '30s and '40s... especially the clothes! But also transport, music and film (stretch into the '50s for some classic Ealing comedies too.) I sing and play vintage jazz on my 1930s uke, and I am teaching myself how to bake delicious dairy free treats.
Now, I've never really been sure about all this blogging and tweeting, believing that there may be some who are fascinating in a virtual word... but I aint one of 'em.
However, now I've started a quest to bake dairy free goodness, I thought I may well be of use to the lactose intolerant net-browser screaming out for a slice of cake!
The reason for my quest is my other half... he is hugely intolerant to dairy and, alas, has an excessively sweet tooth. So I have started to experiment in the kitchen in order to produce yummy stuff for both of us to enjoy. To me most shop bought dairy free stuff can be very expensive, exceedingly dry and occasionally tastes like a health food shop smells, which, let's face it, defeats the enjoyment... so my aim is to produce normal tasting scrummy treats and post the recipes that work. That way, anyone swinging by desperate for a spot of non dairy goodness can try them out too.
Oh, I'll also pop up some other bits too, from fixing vintage dresses, to uke action to general bits and bobs you may find interesting.
